Acquire your GESEA MIGS Diploma

Minimal Invasive Gynaecological Surgeon (MIGS)

The GESEA MIGS Pathway allows you to acquire your ESGE Diploma of Minimal Invasive Gynaecological Surgeon (MIGS). The first step is to get your GESEA Level 1 Certificate proving your general endoscopic knowledge and acquirement of basic endoscopic psychomotor skills. The second step is to successfully complete the GESEA Level 2 MIGS exam and be awarded the GESEA Level 2 MIGS Certificate. This certificate indicates that you have mastered the knowledge and more advanced psychomotor skills as needed to start performing basic endoscopic procedures. Finally, when you have the necessary surgical experience and related competence, you may apply for the GESEA MIGS Diploma as issued by the ESGE. The GESEA MIGS Diploma is a video-based expert-reviewed diploma where surgical skills are evaluated by performing a select number of laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures.

Level 1 Certificate
The first step is to get your GESEA Level 1 Certificate proving your general endoscopic knowledge and acquirement of basic endoscopic psychomotor skills to get ready to start training in the Operating Room

Level 2 MIGS Certificate
The second step is to successfully complete the GESEA Level 2 MIGS exam and be awarded the GESEA Level 2 MIGS Certificate. This certificate indicates that you have mastered the knowledge and more advanced psychomotor skills as needed to start performing basic endoscopic procedures in the Operating Room.

MIGS Diploma
Finally, when you have the necessary surgical experience and related competence, you may apply for the GESEA MIGS Diploma as issued by the ESGE. The GESEA MIGS Diploma is a video-based expert-reviewed diploma where surgical skills are evaluated by performing a select number of laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures.

Additional step (not obligatory) is to obtain Robotics certification and diploma after finalising level 2 certification.

GESEA Level 1 Certificate

Your entry point into the Operating Room

Prerequisites for Level 1 Certification

GESEA Level 1 E-Learning Certificate of Completion

When applying for a level 1 certification, submit your Certificate of Completion together with your application or bring it with you at the certification session.

Knowledge Acquisition
Sign up for the GESEA Level 1 e-learning on ESGE Academy and complete the theoretical tutorials and quizzes of level 1. You will be awarded with a certificate of completion.

Practical Skill Training
Develop your practical skills by exercising with the GESEA Training Tools at your centre, in one of the GESEA Training or Diploma Centres, or during the ESGE Annual Congress and other national congresses where GESEA is present.

Certification
Take the GESEA Level 1 exam at an accredited GESEA Diploma Centre or during an official GESEA Event. The certification session consists of (1) a theoretical exam, TESTT1, which contains 50 multiple choice questions on instrumentation, OR organisation, anatomy, different endoscopic techniques and complication management, and (2) three practical exams, LASTT1, SUTT1 and HYSTT1.

Prerequisites for Level 2 MIGS Certification

GESEA Level 2 MIGS E-Learning Certificate of Completion


First acquire the GESEA Level 1 Certificate before you can apply for the next level. Provide your certificate as proof that you have completed the first level upon registration for a second level certification session.

You can apply for a bypass if you meet the following criteria:

  • Must be over 45 years old
  • Must provide a letter signed by head of department, confirming applicant has experience in major surgeries in both laparoscopy and hysteroscopy
  • Must provide proof of attendance at a recognised suturing workshop

GESEA Level 2 MIGS E-Learning Certificate of Completion

When applying for a Level 2 MIGS Certification, submit your Certificate of Completion together with your application or bring it with you at the certification session.

Note that you still need to complete the GESEA Level 1 e-learning on ESGE Academy.

Knowledge Acquisition
Complete the theoretical tutorials and quizzes of GESEA Level 2 MIGS e-learning on ESGE Academy.
Practical Skill Training

Certification
Take the GESEA Level 2 MIGS exam at an accredited GESEA Diploma Centre or during an official GESEA Event. The certification session consists of

(1) a theoretical exam, TESTT2, which contains 100 multiple choice questions on instrumentation, OR organisation, anatomy, different endoscopic techniques and complication management, and

(2) three practical exams, LASTT2, SUTT2 and HYSTT2.

**Please be aware that not all of the multiple choice questions in TESTT2 are included in the content of the preparatory tutorials on ESGE Academy. TESTT2 also contains additional questions in line with the expected knowledge level for surgeons participating in Level 2 of the GESEA Educational Programme.

Prerequisites for MIGS Diploma

MIGS Certificate

You have acquired the MIGS Certificate.

ESGE Membership

You are a member of the ESGE, either individually or through one of its corporate member societies. If you are not yet, become a member now.

Surgical Competence
To apply for your GESEA MIGS Diploma:
you first have to acquire the necessary surgical competence both in laparoscopy and in hysteroscopy.

You must provide your documented testimony of surgical clinical practice curriculum
a maximum period of 5 years together with supporting documentation to diploma@esge.org.

The next step is to submit the schedule of your first procedure stating the date when you will perform the actual procedure, you cannot use existing recorded video material. There are five different procedures to schedule with a total cost of 500 euro. As soon as you have scheduled your first procedure, you have entered the MIGS Diploma programme.

After you have performed a procedure, you have 48 hours to submit the video of the procedure through the GESEA Diploma Video submission system and the report of the anaesthesiologist to diploma@esge.org. For each procedure, you have to make a separate submission.

When the ESGE has received all your recorded procedures, they will be expert-reviewed and rated.
