Choosing Between MIGS and ECRES: Which GESEA Pathway Is Right for You?

After completing Level 1 of the GESEA programme, many candidates ask themselves the same question:

What’s next?

The GESEA educational model offers two main certification paths at Level 2:

  • MIGS – Minimally Invasive Gynaecological Surgeon

  • ECRES – Endoscopic Reproductive Surgeon

Both are internationally recognised diplomas. Both are built on rigorous standards. But they are not identical. Choosing the right path depends on your clinical focus, your long-term goals, and the type of surgeon you want to become.

What Is GESEA MIGS?

The MIGS pathway is designed for gynaecologists who want to specialise in minimally invasive surgery for benign gynaecological conditions.

This includes procedures such as:

  • Hysterectomy

  • Myomectomy

  • Treatment of endometriosis

  • Operative hysteroscopy

  • Laparoscopic adnexal surgery

The MIGS diploma certifies your ability to manage these cases through endoscopic access — with precision, safety, and competence. It is ideal for those working in surgical units with a strong emphasis on operative gynaecology.

What Is GESEA ECRES?

The ECRES pathway is focused on endoscopic surgery for reproductive purposes. It is best suited for gynaecologists who:

  • Work in fertility clinics or reproductive medicine centres

  • Perform procedures related to tubal patency, uterine anomalies, or ovarian preservation

  • Collaborate with ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology) teams

The ECRES diploma shows that you are qualified to perform endoscopic procedures that support fertility outcomes, in both diagnostic and therapeutic settings.

Shared Foundations, Distinct Destinations

Both pathways require:

  • A GESEA Level 1 certificate

  • Verified theoretical knowledge

  • Assessed psychomotor skills

  • Evaluation of surgical performance in standardised procedures

At GESEA Napoli, we provide training and certification for both MIGS and ECRES, with tailored guidance for each candidate. You can even explore both areas during your development and decide which path aligns best with your practice.

Whether your future lies in complex benign surgery or in reproductive endoscopy, GESEA offers a pathway that is clear, structured, and supported by experts.
