In gynaecological endoscopy, technical excellence begins before entering the operating room. The GESEA Programme recognises that true surgical competence is built on a solid foundation of psychomotor skills — the ability to coordinate hands, eyes, and instruments with precision.
Before performing any endoscopic surgery, candidates are required to complete a set of validated hands-on exercises in laparoscopy, suturing, and hysteroscopy. These exercises are not mere simulations: they are structured challenges designed to replicate real surgical complexity, requiring dexterity, speed, and accuracy.
This approach benefits both the surgeon and the patient. It ensures that the learning curve happens in a safe and controlled environment, avoiding unnecessary risks in the OR. Furthermore, it helps standardise skills across different countries and institutions, offering every trainee the same opportunity to excel.
The psychomotor training is evaluated through dedicated tests (LASTT, SUTT, HYSTT), which must be passed before progressing to the surgical diploma levels. GESEA’s commitment to structured, hands-on training is one of the reasons it has become a trusted global standard in gynaecological endoscopy education.
